Prednisone is used as an anti-inflammatory or an immunosuppressant medication. It is a synthetic cortisone that helps treat a variety of illnesses. Some of the conditions where prednisone is indicated are severe allergies or skin problems, breathing problems, arthritis, and ulcerative colitis. It is also used to help prevent organ rejection in transplant cases.

However, this drug leaves patients more susceptible to infections because it weakens the immune system. That is why persons taking prednisone 10mg and other dosages of this drug should avoid crowds and being near with people who are sick and have infections. It is also not recommended to get vaccinated with a live virus if you take prednisone 10mg though it is still considered a low dose steroid.
