Prednisone generic and prednisolone have also the same side effects, prolonged therapy with these dugs causes abnormal fat distribution, depleting it in the extremities and increasing its deposition in the face, abdomen, and between the shoulder blades. It can lead also to Cushing’s syndrome, a kind of disease involving the adrenal glands. Prednisone generic and prednisolone can also cause protein destruction or catabolism and inhibited protein synthesis, which results to muscle wasting, weakness, osteoporosis, poor wound healing, and immune-suppression. Prednisone generic and prednisolone also alters carbohydrate metabolism by promoting glyconeogenesis and glycogenolysis and by antagonizing the action of insulin. This can result in diabetes mellitus in susceptible people. It may also cause hyperglycemia, glycosuria, and an increase in the severity of existing diabetes mellitus.
Prednisolone is easily absorbed by the body that’s why it is the drug of choice for hepatic disease. The usual dosage of prednisolone for adults is initially 5 to 60 mg P.O daily in two to four doses and further therapy must be individualized for each patient; while the usual dosage of prednisone generic for adults is 5 to 60 mg P.O. daily and further therapy must also be individualized for each patient.
